The Ubuntu New Jersey Local Community Team invites you to our August Linux LAN Party! The LAN Party will be held on Saturday, August 23rd, in:
  • Cherry Hill, Southern NJ
  • Butler, Northern NJ
Event times, at both locations:
  • The Party starts at 14:00 (2PM)
  • Barbecue starts at 17:00 (5PM)
  • The Party ends at 02:00 (2AM) Sunday
The address will be emailed to people who signup and RSVP. We'll be playing a number of different games, both to bring us together as a group, and to show newcomers that Linux gaming is alive and well. Our last LAN went great, and so was the LAN before that. This LAN kicks it up a notch by being in North and South Jersey, simultaneously. More details and signup after the jump.

Games we will (or may) be playing:

FPS
  • Sauerbraten
  • OpenArena
  • Urban Terror
  • Warsow
  • Alien Arena
  • Nexuiz

Action
  • Armagetron Advanced/GLtron

Strategy
  • Bos Wars
  • The Battle for Wesnoth

More games may be added to the list later, and more games may be added during the event. Installers for all games will be available on the LAN.

For more details, or to add games to the list, see our wiki page.

Though Linux, especially Ubuntu, is encouraged, all games we will be playing have both a Linux and Windows version. Note: while many of the games do, not all games have an OS X version. We strongly recommend that you have a dual-booted version of Linux if you are bringing an Apple computer, but Windows will also work, if need be. In any case, we will have people on hand who can help install Linux for anyone who would like to.

What You Should Bring

Please bring your own computer. If you are signing up, and cannot bring a PC, please make note of this in the "What You're Bringing" section (ie, not a computer). We may have extras available, but they will be limited.

If you're bringing a laptop, please remember your power cord. You will probably want to bring a mouse.

If you're bringing a desktop, please bring a monitor (preferably a flat panel LCD), a keyboard, and a mouse.

Whatever you're bringing, to have the best experience possible, you should bring a machine that has 3d acceleration (unless you've arranged something previously). If you don't, make a note of it here and we may work something out.

Please bring an ethernet (network) cable (5-15 ft in length). Some ethernet will be available, and wireless will be available.

Please bring headphones. Speakers cannot be used for games -- if you don't have headphones, we'll have to ask you to mute sound.

Bring some snacks, and something to drink. The RSVP money will cover essential food, but not anything else.

If you're considering staying the night, please bring a sleeping bag and pillow.
